Taking a stand for the customer service promised. The thing business fear most about social media can also be their best marketing tool. Share this if you agree.
With the power word of mouth has today, thanks to social media, It is getting harder and harder for businesses to ‘blow off’ the little guy. In the past, Standing in front of a store with a sign might only affect a small group of people. But now, someone like me may see this, take a picture, and talk about it online. The potential audience reached is exponentially higher than before. This man decided that he was going to be heard. Do you agree with his approach? Here is his story.
Meet Joshua. He is marching in front of a Wind mobile store on Bank st. in Ottawa because he is fed up with being ignored. He claims that he was having trouble with his phone so he took his phone in to the store to get help. It was not working and he was missing important personal and business calls. The employees said that there was nothing that they could do for him so he should just call their help line. Joshua told me that there was no one on the phone that could help him at all or even let him know exactly what was going on. Fed up with the lack of communication, Joshua drew up a sign and hit the sidewalk in -25 Celsius weather to try and get somebody to listen to him.
Wind Mobiles mission statement starts with “To create the most unforgettably positive customer experience in Canada...”
I would say that this has been a customer service experience that Joshua will never forget, but not in the positive light that wind promises.
Many businesses are afraid that this may happen to them so they shy away from social media. That isn’t the answer. This is an opportunity for wind to find Joshua and give him the service that he expects from them, publicly, and show all of us that @Wind Mobile really is different than the other companies that we are so used to dealing with here in Canada. So I look forward to seeing how Wind handles this.
Most people make blanket statements for their resolutions. Things like “I’m going to get healthy” or “I’m going to make my business successful”. The problem with these kind of resolutions is that they are focusing on the outcome… Not the cause. It is very hard to establish the steps needed to actually accomplish these goals so we spend a couple of weeks working long hours or hitting the gym only to go right back to doing what we were doing before. Ask yourself “what habits or actions contribute to me needing to make this change?” Do you procrastinate at work? Do you skip breakfast?
The easiest way to make a big change in your life is to take small steps. Pick one of these bad habits to change. After a while it will become automatic and you can pick another small thing to change. Before you know it, you will need to start making different resolutions every year because your past ones actually stuck!
A wise teacher was taking a stroll through the forest with a young pupil and stopped before a tiny tree. “Pull up that sapling,” the teacher instructed his pupil, pointing to a sprout just coming up from the earth. The youngster pulled it up easily with his fingers. “Now pull up that one,” said the teacher, indicating a more established sapling that had grown to about knee high to the boy. With little effort, the lad yanked and the tree came up, roots and all. “And now, this one,” said the teacher, nodding toward a more well-developed evergreen that was as tall as the young pupil. With great effort, throwing all his weight and strength into the task, using sticks and stone he found to pry up the stubborn roots, the boy finally got the tree loose. “Now,” the wise one said, “I’d like you to pull this one up.” The young boy followed the teacher’s gaze, which fell upon a mighty oak so tall the boy could scarcely see the top. Knowing the great struggle he’d just had pulling up the much smaller tree, he simply told his teacher, “I am sorry, but I can’t.” “My son, you have just demonstrated the power that habits will have over your life!” the teacher exclaimed. “The older they are, the bigger they get, the deeper the roots grow, and the harder they are to uproot. Some get so big, with roots so deep, you might hesitate to even try.”
I got this story from the book ‘the Compound Effect’ by @darrenhardy . It is a great resource and I highly recommend that you read it.
You don’t have to be a zombie. Take a step back and think about why you’re making the decisions that you are. Is it an automatic response or is it what you truly want?
In order to have a great idea come to life, you have to act. Just keeping a thought or idea in your head isn’t enough. It is so easy to get caught up in waiting until the idea is perfectly planned out before acting on it. Waiting for that perfect moment to release it to the world. So many people spend countless hours researching and planning so that there could be no possible chance of failure… and far to often that time never comes. Get your idea out of your head and into the real world! Build the foundation and work, step-by-step, towards your goal. Let go of your fear of failing. Come out from hiding behind the potential of your idea and just start building. If you ‘fail’ then make sure you learn from the experience and start again. You can only truly fail if you stop acting.
If you know someone that is full of ideas but may be hesitating to act then please share this wit them.
I keep hearing people say “you have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable” to be successful. While I do agree with this, I think that people take it too far.
In order to grow as human beings, we need to push the limits of our comfort zone. Chances are if you aren’t doing anything in your life that makes you uncomfortable than you aren’t growing. I used to be very shy and introverted which would make it much harder for me to ever build a business. I wanted to change this so I got a job in sales in order to force myself to talk to people. It was very difficult at first but it only took a few months before I was able to easily converse with people. My first time public speaking terrified me but after the third or fourth time doing it I began to love it and now it is my passion. As you continually do something that makes you uncomfortable, it will become easier and easier to do.
Why do I bring this all up? In my example, I was always selling something that I believed in. I had something that I wanted to share with people so I left my comfort zone in order to build the skills I needed to reach more people. I was always comfortable with WHAT I was doing even when I was uncomfortable with the HOW. Many people start in a business or join a company where they are asked to do something that at their core they are uncomfortable with. They are told to read a script to people that are close to them or push a product that they don’t 100 percent believe in. In cases like these (and I see it a lot) no matter how many times you perform the action, you will never be comfortable with what you are doing. If you are in a situation like this it won’t take long for you to burn out and give up. If you are worried about turning off your friends and family with that script, figure out a way in sharing your product/service with them that you will feel good about. If you aren’t sure if the product really is good or not then take a little bit of time and find out! If you don’t take care of these things in the beginning then chances are you will never be happy with what you are doing.
So push the boundaries of your comfort zone and do the things you need to do to build healthy habits and grow… But never do something that you are extremely uncomfortable with. You will never feel happy and fulfilled if you do.
Life is meant to be lived. Think about the life you want to have and start taking small steps towards it. It took you a lifetime to get to where you are now, so don’t feel like it all has to change overnight.
Decide on one thing that you can change today and do it. Tell the world that you are doing it so that you will be held accountable and surround yourself with people that will support and motivate you.
This video teaches us a lot about how to achieve a goal. Set a goal. Put it out there so that people will hold you accountable. Surround yourself with people that will support and motivate you.
